Plan to arrive on the mountaintop by 4 pm on Monday, September 19th, and we'll get you settled in your room. Then we'll have an orientation session with the whole group. You'll meet your instructor before dinner. (Meals at Wildacres are plentiful and healthy.)
Classes begin the first evening, and after that, you'll meet with your workshop group every day for three hours in the morning. Afternoon and evening sessions are with the whole group. We'll also have a group of singer/songwriters on the mountain with us. There will be plenty of live music and close-by hiking during free times.
Our faculty work very hard to pack in the most information possible during the morning sessions. Therefore, we encourage you to take the late afternoons to rest a bit and write so that you can get the most out of your experience. WHAT TO BRING
Linens and towels are provided. If you like to get out and walk, bring hiking boots or comfortable walking shoes. Dress is very casual, but please be prepared for warm days, chilly nights, and the possibility of rain. You may bring a laptop and printer if you wish. Wildacres has a rather slow wireless Internet connection in the lobby. But there are no telephones in the rooms and cell phone service is spotty. The idea is to retreat and focus on yourself and your writing! You're also welcome to bring any musical instruments, snacks, and your own favorite beverages. Wildacres has a canteen on premises where you may buy soft drinks, snacks, and sweatshirts. SPECIAL NEEDS
Wildacres is on a mountaintop. Moving from the lodges to the dining hall requires a short hike down and up a hill. A golf cart (and driver) will be available for those requiring assistance in navigating the grounds. The lodge has some rooms outfitted for special accessibility. Please do let us know of any special dietary or other requirements on your registration form so that we can plan for your comfort.
BOOKS
If you have books of your own to sign and sell, by all means bring them. We will also have books on hand from our faculty that will be available for sale and signing on the last day of the workshop.
